"The end of the project was the exit from that universe: but the wind will still follow each of us on its way back. And maybe we left a buried secret in Forcalquier? Or we carried in a box to Marseilles?
Or did someone of you take it? Who? "

Nadja Grasselli

"Strange feelings, such a mix salad of it.. But here, back home, is the window and the view to Botanical garden that connects me to the beauty of Provence, Forcalquier, unexpected great P.U.B experience, performances, people and the world of Magnan."

Jelena Jezdovic

"Back home i had so many things to do with my work that I didn't have time to think about anything... I just feel everybody is far away, but I'm confident we meet again."

Elodie Cadol

"Our days with Pierre Magnan feel far away I think because the contrast back home is rather than big. The first change was moving from Forcalquier to Marseille and now it is going back to ‘reality’. Missing mainly the laughts and funny moments we had. Missing the wind. And wondering how is our cat doing."

Miriam Zafra

"I left my Czech mates to go home after the project and I extended my staying in Provense and spent few beautiful days with

2) acordeon, guittar,

3)hitchhiking, songs,

4) nature

5)and my love.."

"Up up up at the Vierge de la Garde again up up up at Cami's - he tells us that he used a mirror to extend the table. I like this idea. Fishes - wines - pies. Conversations on the balcony - End of the project feelings - waiting for the dishes in a typical Marseille atmosphere. Talking in the balcony - Waiting also what will be next. Ice cream made from anis. Food and Laugh - A nice way to goodbye this Marseilles that I shared with P.U.Blic."

"Time passed very quickly in Marseilles... New things came in the creative process: body painting projection, sound poetry, flashlights and lots of boxes.

This time I found myself under an ass, for the unforgettable worm entrance, sliding through the dance floor, stretching my legs in the ballet wooden bars and under a chair of a person whispering secrets.

When Nadja locked us in the space at the end of the performance, I felt like this is the end, the closure of a long effort of researching, discovering and playing along with everything that came our way.

I'm grateful."

"CIAM is our new rehearsal and stage place. Some music, warming up and we feel home! The mirrors of the space reflect and remind us why we are there. It is difficult to adapt ‘La Boîte à Mistral’ from the big stage to a small space. Adapting? Changing? Improving? Magnan’s obsessions are coming to us. But the audience will seat between us!"

Miriam Zafra

17/09/2013

"When Leo asked us whether we want to go for a performance in which the audience is part of, by receiving smses, I was hesitant!

Till the first sms arrived on my phone: "How can you describe your smell?"

Arriving to a typical Marseille cafe, putting blindfolds on, hearing stories, smelling people, meetings in the toilet and walking to "la Friche", a cultural space, was entertaining! If only it wouldn't finish with a lecture from guests of the theater festival...

Having a reflection at the end, with the people who organized the performance was fun and it kept my curiosity high."

"When  I was very young I was passing through this bistrot to go to the market with my grandmother. Nothing has changed (almost). Eyes closed, coffee, smells, Balkan presentations at the Friche, Meeting with Lieux Fictifs and the short movies made by the ex prisoners. Memories and Inspirations."

"Arriving to Marseille in style I would say -in Elodys’ super cool track, with Daft Punk song “Get Lucky” in the back, looking at the Notre-Dame de la Garde.

Crowded streets, cars sirens, yelling, such a city mess atmosphere in a crazy exciting way..and for sure away from nature and beauty of Provence.

Big apartment, with sound of trams, and busy streets, it really takes some time to adjust to it and accept it after 2 weeks, that seem like 2 moths, in the place where time stopped..or it seemed like that. Feeling like a country girl, coming to a big city.

What’s next?"

Jelena Jezdovic

16/09/2013

"We had a bit of time to see Marseille and its' multicultural layers. Dinner at Elody's, with view of the city and a walk to the port. All good!

But there is this undeniable sensation of the hard, cool atitude of people from Marseille: walking in the streets, crossing red lights and flirting with every girl that is near.

Leo explained: THIS IS MARSEILLE! and repeated it hundreds of times the next days. SInce then, we are walking in the streets, rapping and rhyming always at the end: "...because I'm in Marseilles!"

And today, … today it is raining.

A sentence is running through the group: we changed the weather again.

"We knew that we had to leave for yet another performance in a mysterious garden and sleep in a tipi!

The feeling of leaving so quick was dreadful but waking up to see Forcalquier wet made me happy! Despite the cancellation of the performance, we finally had the time to say goodbye to Forcalquier and the people we met...

Hoping on the bus to Marseille the next day, we decided to visit the garden we were supposed to perform at. Little we knew the beauty in which we had the opportunity to perform but missed. Next time, we all kept saying..."

"The ecogarden was just great!

This is a perfect concept to let people garden together and the same time show to the children how the nature´s principles work. I was surprised by the rolling solar kitchen which was built from the dream throw the model  sample till the real solar kitchen! They can travel with the kitchen to different places and events and show the principles of solar cooking to more people."

Nadja Grasselli

"My first entrance on a Stage was through a huge door in the  theatre of Forcalquier. I considered it as an amazing experince. I am really thankfull for this chance, to the whole collective. This door closed just after the begining of the performance, there was no other way for me but to stay there.

And I gladly accepted it!"

"The box, the wind and Pierre Magnan are the three pilars of the perfomance. At the end we are just characters who experience it and go to the box. That’s it. As one person from the public said:

Have a nice wind!"

Noisy steps on a wooden floor. An opportunity to run on a huge stage when I spend almost all my life in a very narrow place.
Running and sweating – curly hair and more Tim Burton. Wearing a costume. And a vest. (Mom in the audience will be surprised).

Opening a very heavy door like you open a box of matches. Feeling the fire in my feet and bamboo in my hair. Tarzan?
Finally I confess:   I loved throwing the books of Magnan on the floor. Thinking that it would make him laugh…

"Moving from one rehearsal place to another, from an idea to a new one, forgetting keys, moving props, painting clothes and remembering that we forgot to add music to what we do!

Then the filming came. Storyboard is ready but realizing it, is another thing. From the fields to the rocks, from downhills to uphills, shadows, circles and then the box.

A creature, an animal that we like to call the worm, the Pina (Bausch) worm, the caterpillar, the big pig and other names like this, was created for this short film. The intention is not funny. It's a game to reach a goal. In an anorthodox way maybe... But I like it a lot!"

Technicals – technicals – technicals.

Black and white. Lights. Costumes. Bamboo structures. Cakes. Screen. Projector. Editing. Lines. Questions – doubts – changes.

Keep the sense of humor."

"When we met Francoise Magnan, she explained us how much Pierre Magnan was a writer attached to the sensations...the worm video was a travel through sensations, the wind in the wild field, the touch of the rocks, the face of someone in your legs, the orange light of the citadelle and ending up in the middle of the night running after the mistral in our Place du Palais..."

The PUBlic Collective was invited for a radio interview at the Radio Zinzine of the Longo Mai community, close to Forcalquier.

"Interviews make you feel like what you say in that moment is definitive. It is recorded. This is why i am scared of them. But at the same time i always wanted to do work for radio. Is there some contraddiction? This time i just took the challange. But it was so fast and smooth. And the rooms – what to say in front of so many records?"

Nadja Grasselli

"One starry night the PUBlic collective had the opportunity to visit the Longo Mai community, close to Forcalquier. This, so called, anarchist community has been living there since 70s. It is a network of more than 140 people, agricultural co-operatives, sharing same political anti-capitalist ideological views.

We were hosted with delicious home-made pork pate, salads, wine… and an atmosphere of strong characters. We also had the special and rare occasion to be in one of the community’s meeting on agriculture and free media. I say rare, ‘cause it feels like they are function more like a closed community.

This was a real PUB experience, with mixture of strange feelings of dedication, seriousness, strong body language, and some kind of oppression…"

"We were looking forward for the moment we can start expressing all what we have read, we have shared, we have lived or just what we have and it finally arrived. Now is time to express ourselves.

We are finally in the 'Espace Culturel de la Bonne Fontain' theater in Forcalquier.

We came exactly for that and we are starting to work in Magnan's obsessions.

Meeting the stage, meeting the imaginary public, meeting the lights, meeting the movements, meeting us and meeting you. Let's create!!"

"Costumes, props, music and filming locations. Since the moment we started creating for the theater stage of Forcalquier, the time runs fast with us.

Group photos for PR, while making dramaturgical lines for the performance and panicking for the outcome, seems to be normal. ‘No let up’ as Laviolette, the character of Magnan would say."

Entering, there was a sign in French: “This way”. The scenery of the small path that leads to the garden, pass the two turtles making love, started having an impact of pure excitement and discovery.

Care and energy in old objects that took time to fix and no money to buy, constructed the atmosphere of subtleness and harmony. And then the food came…

All I can say is that the impressions of the place, the people and the way of living reached the highest pick… From then and on, there is no return…”

"Do you know this feeling of an empty brain because it is just too full of impressions?
This is how i feel after five days in Bistrot Magnan."

“It’s the silent Sunday after a strong storm of stimuli and experiences. We got the invitation from Mireille, the aunt of Leo, to have lunch at their place.

By the time we reached the sign of “You are at the right place” we knew that we were in paradise.

"Paradise day!

We found the paradise in the end of the rose´s tunnel. There were three Angels who were taking care of us. They taught us how to cook the god´s manna. We got to know that the typical Provencal food is simple and very taste.

We experienced extracts of Provencal smell, color, texture, weather, atmosphere in every piece of chocolate cake we baked there. We were very happy to experience cooking in a beautiful kitchen as well as relaxing in the garden.

We knew that we were on the right place :)"

« A Saturday in Banon is an adventure. We went to Le Bluelet bookshop for an animation. It felt like an entrance to another dimension. A world of smells in a garden and stories of over hundreds of thousands of writers sitting on selves. We performed twice.

Once outside in a labyrinth garden with lavender, lemon grass and salvia lingering in the air and sounds coming from the bushes.

Inside the libraries, it felt like characters and images of books were animated in space and time. »

Animation at the movie premiere of "Death in the Truffle woods"

"What we did in front of the cinema felt more like a flash mob than an animation.

It was through the people. We were not completely welcomed – being called „le comédiens“.

Going back home to Place du Palais, with all the people we are meeting here made me feel there are two Forcalquiers.

Or maybe more. Or maybe just one – but deeply inextricable."

Meeting Francoise Magnan, the wife of Pierre Magnan

"Francoise Magnan was full of souvenirs for us. And i am stuck on one:

Magnan believed that he could recognize writers writing with typewriters

and writers who write manually.

Now i need to try it out.

Were these few words written manually or not, what do you think?"

We saw the movie in the claustrophobic misterious room of the Speak Easy association - thanks to Gabrielle (and thank you Gabrielle for your scones yesterday too!) and  closed the night with the "Fete de la Soup" - Czech Soup Party with all the movie watchers."

"The South of France is a place where no one knows when the buses are coming or where they are going. But it seems everyone knows when they are leaving. (...) Folcalquier is beautiful. "Fresh" in the evenings, as Leo and his aunt would say. Fresh, indeed. Piano music in the background. We live in Place du Palais , near the Tribunal d'instance, which is now the print house of Magnan. Or used to be his. A poster of him is hanging on a wooded door, next to the main entrance. Sometimes, a question pops up: Who is Magnan?"
